JCB has invested £50 million into a new cab production plant based in Staffordshire.
JCB has just announced it’s most recent investment of more than £50 million in a new facility that is going to create hundreds of new jobs in the Staffordshire area. The new plant will have the capacity to double the production of the cabs used on a variety of JCB machines.
Construction of the new 350,000 sq ft facility has already begun alongside the two existing JCB plants in Staffordshire. JCB have plans to produce 100,000 cabs a year from this new factory, doubling it’s existing production abilities. The cabs are intended for its Loadall telehandler & Fastrac models. The plant will make use of computer-controlled production lines as well as fully automated painting facilities as well as robotic welding stations. JCB predict there will be more than 200 employees working at the facility by 2022. The new facility is set to open in the Summer of 2019.
CEO Graeme Macdonald has been quoted saying: “This new factory will be the most advanced and productive cab facility in the world and will bring even greater levels of efficiency to the business.”
“The investment is one of the biggest in the company’s history and underlines our commitment to manufacturing in Britain and in our home county of Staffordshire.”
JCB Cab Systems currently employs over 400 people in its current site in Rugeley. JCB Cab Systems’ General Manager David Carver said: “While new jobs will be created, moving to the new factory will enable us to double capacity without doubling the workforce thanks to high levels of automation. The whole plant is being designed to improve productivity, reduce waste and provide unprecedented quality levels.”
Exciting news from JCB as this is one of the biggest expansions JCB has seen in years.
JCB Celebrates the Fastrac 3000 Series & it’s contributions to farm productivity:
JCB have praised & celebrated the contribution the Fastrac 3000 Series tractor has made to the productivity of farming over the past 20 years of its use.
First introduced in 1998, the 150 horsepower Fastrac 3155 & 170 horsepower 3185 were seen as huge innovations from the successful 100 Series. Like the models before them, the 3000 Series tractors introduced a level of reliability, productivity & versatility that no other machine had offered to the industry at that point. The 3000 Series took off and was adopted & used worldwide.
Later variants of the 3000 Series introduced more power, better fuel efficiency, lower running costs & lower carbon emissions. A new JCB powershift transmission was introduced better field productivity & transport operations. It
was around this time that the Fastrac was first seen with new anti-lock braking systems for improved on & off road safety.
The production of the 3000 Series is coming to its end, with JCB’s focus now pouring onto the design, engineering & production to the new 8000 & 4000 Series designs. This new line of machines is meant to take the Fastrac line to new heights of performance, reliability & productivity with advanced CVT transmissions, all-new cabs & integrated guidance and ISOBUS electronics.
The final Fastrac 3230 Xtra off the assembly line is destined for a customer in Australia, where the tractor’s working speed, stability, traction and ride comfort have made it a popular choice for fertiliser application and other spreading operations, often carried out across difficult terrain.
“Over the past 20 years, they have gained more power, better transmissions, upgraded cab equipment and new features that added to their control and performance capabilities, and helped the tractors win over many fans to the advanced Fastrac concept.
The JCB Fastrac range now comprises three 4000 Series tractors from 175-235hp with a top speed of 60kph, multi-mode four-wheel steering and ‘active’ suspension all round, and the two-model Fastrac 8000 Series with 306-348hp and capable of 70kph.
With the all-new Command Plus cab providing excellent all-round visibility and new levels of driver comfort, the seamless speed control versatility of CVT transmissions and built-in GPS guidance and ISOBUS implement control capability, these machines raise the bar for tractor design, performance and comfort within their class.
They both set new standards for field work applications while maintaining distinct advantages for haulage operations by building on the Fastrac’s unique combination of suspension for both axles, dual circuit four-wheel braking with large external discs, and anti-lock brake control to maintain the highest possible level of braking performance and steering control on all surfaces.
