Travis Perkins Invests in 500 new JCB Machines!
The builder’s merchant firm Travis Perkins has just invested over £7,000,000 for 500 new JCB machines for its Tool Hire division.
Travis Perkins has bought a fleet of Mini Excavators & One Tonne High Tip Site Dumpers to strengthen it’s national tool hire business. This brings the firms overall investment of JCB machines to over 2,700 in the past 10 years alone.
Supplied by the Watling plant of JCB, the new machines have been delivered across the UK to the different Travis Perkins facilities.
Richard Teller, Watling JCB managing director, said: ”Over recent years we have continued to strengthen our aftermarket business to ensure we provide a market-leading service for Travis Perkins. This order supports our continued investment in enhancing the customer experience when dealing with Watling JCB.”
Catherine Gibson, The tool hire managing director for TP states: “As we continue to invest in our Tool Hire business, it is important we work with suppliers who offer value for money and market-leading innovation for our customers. JCB clearly demonstrates its ongoing commitment to us and to our customers by delivering on both counts.”
Wiltshire Developement Firm adopt the new JCB 7T-1
A residential development contractor in the Wiltshire area that has been campaigning for improved site safety has recently acquired two new JCB 7T-1’s to push the emphasis on site dumper safety.
The Wiltshire base firm is one of the first development firms to take delivery of the 7T-1’s, making it a very exciting delivery for them. The 7T-1 features a full cab making it much more safe in terms of overall operation. The new seven tonne machines from JCB join the fleet of Wacker Neuson site dumpers which also feature cabs.
The firm has plans for the new dumpers, using them predominantly on their new private housing developments. They’ll be used to haul aggregate & spoil around their site.
Following a fatal incident in 2016, the chairman of the firm has been at the forefront of health & safety when it comes to construction. The push to improve health & safety when it comes to construction sites comes from a place of wanting to improve sites nationally to rid the industry of accidents related to the operation of site dumpers.
The JCB 7T-1 Front Tip
The JCB 7T-1 Front Tip Hi-Viz model was designed to address some of the main safety concerns that operators experience on a daily basis. Construction sites are a hazardous environment to work, which is why there is such a big push for machines that are able to cater to the need for improved safety. The 7T-1’s low slung chassis is improved forward visibility for the operator when the skip is full. The wheelbase of the dumper is also wider, improving stability as well as lowering the overall height of the machine. The 7T-1 also features the ROPS/FOPS Level II JCB SiTESAFE cab as standard to protect the operator in the event of an overturn or collision.
“The new JCB Hi-Viz model typifies what I have been looking for from a front tipping dumper and ticks so many boxes for me,” says the firm’s chairman. “The design is a credit to JCB.”
He states: “The introduction of fully operator protected cabs on-site dumpers takes safety to new heights, further enhanced by the superior visibility on this JCB model. We see the Hi-Viz as a massive step forward from our current fleet, due to the extra natural visibility enabled by the lower skip height, and better visibility through the front cab screen. Also, when the local risk assessment allows, operators can potentially stay in the cab during operations, and this could help stop hundreds of trips and dumper related incidents each year.
“JCB has taken site dumper design to the next level. It keeps the momentum going in the movement to make open-cabbed dumpers a thing of the past in the UK construction industry.”
